Personality & Traits
General Overview | Nicki is outwardly confident and even dominant, though inwardly, she is constantly questioning herself. She is friendly and laid back most of the time, but do not test her or threaten her friends or family; it will be the last regret you ever have. She has a significant amount of sass and sarcasm, learned from her own mother. Nobody could accuse her of being quiet when she has something to say. She will stand up for herself against anybody, no matter how powerful they are, and will stand up for her friends and family even against other friends or family. She also has a pretty dry and deadpan sense of humor. Most people don't even realize she's making a joke unless she smiles or winks, which is pretty rare. She is VERY good at not laughing even when something is downright hilarious. In fact, she has pretty good control over all of her emotions, something she learned as a teenager during magic lessons. |
|
Strengths & Weaknesses | +Protective of friends and family +Good control of emotions +Loyal friend -Actually very unsure of herself -Can sometimes be downright cruel when defending herself or her friends and family -Ignores problems for too long |
|
Hobbies & Interests | Music, obviously. Also Tae Kwon Do, reading, and riding motorcycle |
Personal History | Born in Bay City, Michigan to a Catholic family, Dominique’s “abilities” were apparent from a young age. At the age of 5, she found a dead bird and accidentally brought it back to life. Her family encouraged her drawing, painting and music instead of the other abilities which they did not understand. It was not until she reached high school that she came to the notice of the resident witch, Janelle Russell. Russell took Dominique under her wing and taught her the forms and purposes, the rights and wrongs of the craft. She had an aptitude for Necromancy, and so focused on raising zombies, which was useful when the deceased was the only person with certain information. When the Catholic church threatened Witches with interdict, her family did not take it well and left the catholic church to join a non-denominational one whose pastor had a more sympathetic view. After all that, however, Dominique opted to attend a local music school where she intended to study music education. She discovered, however, that she had no interest in teaching and instead switched to a performance major. While there, one of her professors, Meiling Chan, invited her and three other students to join the werehound pack. The lure of a complete healing of her lungs (which had been damaged by childhood pneumonia) and ankles (which had been diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis) Dominique quickly signed up to join the “Leesh”. Since becoming a Hound, Dominique found that it became very difficult to raise Zombies and in one sudden burst of irritated energy, found that she had brought the person’s soul back from Heaven. She had discovered a very useful talent. (Her potions making and telekinesis remained unaltered, however.) It was about this time that she began using the name Nicki while on Leesh business. It didn't make a lot of sense, but she felt her personal identity should be preserved somehow. It didn't work, however, as now nearly everyone calls her Nicki. After college, she returned to her Bay City, taking a few scattered gigs here and there and working in a local music shop. She remained active in the Central Michigan Leesh, even recruiting new members, and eventually starting a new Leesh in Bay City. Once the Leesh in her hometown was well established, she held a vote, during which they voted unanimously to keep her as leader, or as one of her seconds called her, Perra Una. Shortly thereafter, she was contacted by Ryan Thompson, a friend of her brother's who was concerned that he had been bitten by a werecougar. He had heard that Hound bites could cure any lycanthropy as long as it was administered before the next full moon and invited her to bite him. He took precautions, but did not shift into any form. He was so happy, he took pizza and ice cream to her apartment to celebrate. The two had a rocky start with a lot of arguments and shouting, but they fell into a relationship and were married three years later. On the way home from their honeymoon, they saw smoke rising thick and black from the direction of the hospital and quickly changed directions, heading instead to the hospital. Nicki made Ryan promise to stay outside while she ran to help. She knew she would be fine as Hounds healed almost faster than they could be hurt. But of course Ryan couldn't stay put while helpless people were inside. During one of his many trips inside, a ceiling collapsed, pinning him and several patients under it. Though firefighters were able to get them all out, none of them survived. Nicki was inconsolable for weeks, though her Leesh tried to bring her comfort. Ryan left her everything, including a small fortune he had won in the lottery before they had even met and had never bothered to mention. His brother informed her that Ryan had wanted to make sure any girl he married would love him for who he was and not what he had and he had planned on telling her about the money after the honeymoon. She tried to share the money with his brother and mother, but they insisted she keep it all as he had already shared some of his wealth with them. A large skirmish between the werehynas and the werevultures snapped her out of her misery. She realized that life still happened around her and that her Leesh needed her. So, after the skirmish, her second pushed for another vote, which she won unanimously yet again. A little more than a year after Ryan's death, Nicki started a relationship with one of the Hounds in the Leesh, Jarrod Lask. Jarrod had had feelings for Nicki from the beginning and if she was perfectly honest with herself, she had reciprocated those feelings, but was hesitant to start anything because she was the alpha. However, Ryan's death showed her how uncertain life is and that she had to live for now. She also knew Ryan would hate for her to pine after him for the rest of her life- because she had called his soul back and spoken with him. He had actually been surprised that she hadn't already started something with Jarrod, having been aware of their mutual attraction in life. He assured her that he wasn't upset or jealous and that she should move on. She promised to never call him again and his parting words were, "see that you don't," with a grin and a wink. But, he was right; she SHOULD move on. And so she did. Two months later, an opportunity to do some studio work in Nashville opened up for her and she convinced Jarrod- a firefighter- to come with her. So, after a final vote to replace her as leader- Pete, one of her seconds, won the leader spot unanimously- they set off for a new life. |
